The government reinforcements begin to arrive

While these small attacks were ongoing, the governor appealed to the Amír-Kabír for proper reinforcements. The ‘ulamá of Zanján also wrote to the capital decrying their situation and asking for support from the Sháh. One historian records:

The Sháh, hardly rid of the war in Mázindarán [Fort Tabarsí] and enraged at the thought of another sedition in another section of his empire, urged also by his son Sadr-i-A’zam and by the ‘ulamá who had declared a holy war, gave orders to kill the Bábís and plunder their possessions. 41_ACT14

On receiving these petitions, the Amír-Kabír wrote to the generals of the imperial army that were in the vicinity of the Zanján region. As a result over the next months, wave upon wave of different generals and their reinforcements came to Zanján. They came with infantry and cavalry, all well-equipped including with heavy artillery such as large cannons. But their efforts to subjugate the Bábís of Zanján will prove to be difficult.
