Prologue
“Khamsih is a small province to the east of Kaflán-Kúh or Mountain of the Tiger, between ‘Iráq and Ádhirbáyján. Its capital, Zanján, is a beautiful city surrounded by an embattled wall fortified with towers like all Persian cities. The inhabitants are of the Turkish race and the Persian language is seldom spoken, unless it be by government employees. The surrounding country is studded with villages which are fairly prosperous. Powerful tribes visit them, especially in the winter and spring.” 1_ACT14
This is how a Western historian described Zanján in the 1840s. But this idyllic town would soon be torn apart by the Call of the New Day.
