Prologue
âKhamsih is a small province to the east of KaflĂĄn-KĂșh or Mountain of the Tiger, between âIrĂĄq and ĂdhirbĂĄyjĂĄn. Its capital, ZanjĂĄn, is a beautiful city surrounded by an embattled wall fortified with towers like all Persian cities. The inhabitants are of the Turkish race and the Persian language is seldom spoken, unless it be by government employees. The surrounding country is studded with villages which are fairly prosperous. Powerful tribes visit them, especially in the winter and spring.â 1_ACT14
