companions, Áqá Rasúl [#75] the leader of the group, and the young boy Qásim [#79]. One record states:

Some of the pure-hearted people of Mazandaran came to believe in the Faith, and they joined the companions at the fort. Among them were a group of people from Bahnamír, a village near Bárfurúsh. They had accompanied Quddús to Tabarsí when he came to join the companions at the fort. As this group had prepared to leave their village, Qásim, a young boy, approached their leader, Áqá Rasúl, and asked to be allowed to go with them. Áqá Rasúl refused, saying that he was too young for such an undertaking. But Qásim would not give in. He hid himself near a bridge which he knew that they would pass after midnight. When the villagers reached this place, he stood in their way and begged again not to be disappointed. So, Áqá Rasúl accepted him.

Sometime later, when the companions were severely tested, Áqá Rasúl could not bear the trials, and he abandoned his fellow believers [in the fort] 36_ACT10. But the young Qásim was staunch to the end. During the last days of the siege, when the enemy cannons shelled the grounds of the fort, Qásim was struck in the stomach, his abdomen split open. Holding his intestines in both hands, he ran toward Quddús … and fell dead [at Quddús’ feet].37_ACT10
