The rest of the guards followed the example of their chief, implored the blessings of their Prisoner, kissed His feet, and with tears in their eyes bade Him a last farewell. To each the Báb expressed His appreciation of his devoted attentions and assured him of His prayers in his behalf. Reluctantly they delivered Him into the hands of the governor of Tabríz, the heir to the throne of Muhammad Sháh. To those with whom they were subsequently brought in contact, these devoted attendants of the Báb and eye-witnesses of His superhuman wisdom and power, recounted with awe and admiration the tale of those wonders which they had seen and heard, and by this means helped to diffuse in their own way the knowledge of the new Revelation. 107ACT5
The son of Muhammad Big [named ‘Alí-Akbar Big] became a fervent follower of the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh, and recounted to many the remarkable accounts he had heard from his father about the Báb. 108ACT5
The Báb arrives in Tabríz
Tabríz, being the main city in this far north-western region of the land, had already heard about the Báb and His Message, before His arrival. It had been visited by some of the Letters of the Living, and it already had a sizeable number of believers. 109ACT5
Tabrízí Youth: Love that does not wait
Many of the believers of Tabríz had gone to the gate of the city to try and meet the Báb, but none were successful except for one youth. This youth, when he glimpsed the escort while they were still very far away from the gate, did not wait at the gate like the others. Although he was barefoot, he ran through the city gate and the long distance to the escort. When he eventually got to the advance guard of horsemen, he joyously welcomed them, and taking hold of the hem of the garment of one of them, devoutly kissed his stirrups, and with tears said: “Ye are the companions of my Well-Beloved. I cherish you as the apple of my eye.” The intensity and sincerity of this youth, so moved the guards that they let him through to meet his Master.
