      to further his own political ends. With this in mind, in mid-1851, the Amír-Kabír, invited Bahá’u’lláh to meet with him. This was in Tihrán. Bahá’u’lláh Himself related to Nabíl, the details of that meeting. The Amír-Kabír told Bahá’u’lláh directly he knew that without Bahá’u’lláh’s leadership the Bábí resistance could not have continued. He then added: “The ability and skill with which you have managed to direct and encourage those efforts could not fail to excite my admiration. … I feel it a pity that so resourceful a person should be left idle and not be given an opportunity to serve his country and sovereign.” The Amír-Kabír then added that after the Sháh returned from his current planned trip outside the capital, he would ask the Sháh to confer upon Bahá’u’lláh the position of Amír-Díván. Bahá’u’lláh told Nabíl how He had responded:

      We vehemently protested against such accusations and refused to accept the position he hoped to offer Us. A few days after that interview, We left Tihrán for Karbilá. 22_ACT15
