Section Three: Attempt on the life of the Sháh [15 August 1852]

A small group of immature and misguided Bábís

Living faith involves a process much like that of a seed developing into a tree that bears good fruit. It is a long process, and all don’t make it beyond certain stages after germination. ‘Azím
sadly was among those Bábís whose faith remained immature.35_ACT15 ‘Azím [his real name was Mullá Shaykh ‘Alí
] had met the Báb several times,36_ACT15 but the martyrdom of the Báb and the constant persecution of the Bábís was something he could not accept. He and a small group of companions, in their misguided minds, sought revenge.

While Bahá’u’lláh was staying in the Shimírán area, upon His return to Tihrán in the summer of 1852, ‘Azím came to see Him. When Bahá’u’lláh learnt about ‘Azím’s revenge plans, He, in most emphatic terms, told ‘Azím that he should abandon this path. Nabíl records that:

Bahá’u’lláh condemned his [‘Azím’s] designs, dissociated Himself entirely from the act it was his intention to commit, and warned him that such an attempt would precipitate fresh disasters of unprecedented magnitude. 37_ACT15

But Bahá’u’lláh’s emphatic counsel was to no avail.
