One-night, not long after their wedding, Khadíjih Bagum dreamt that a fearsome lion was standing in the courtyard of their house. Her arms were around the lion’s neck as it dragged her two and a half times around the entire perimeter of the courtyard. She woke up terrified and recounted her dream to the Báb. He explained: “You awoke too soon. The dream portends that our life together will not last more than two and a half years.” Khadíjih Bagum was heartbroken, but the Báb comforted her by telling her that the dream was meant to help her prepare for the adversities she would encounter in the path of God.
