Section Four: The Martyrdom of the Báb

Everyone had been stunned witnessing the miraculous survival of the Báb and Anís. Mírzá Hasan Khán, the Amír-Kabír’s brother, knew he had to do something right away. With the refusal of Sám Khán and his regiment to continue, Hasan Khán turned to one of the other regiments that was stationed at the barracks. It was a Muslim regiment led by Áqá Ján Khán-i-Khamsih
. Hasan Khán ordered him to immediately take up the execution before the crowd got out of hand. They fetched the Báb from the barrack room where He had been found in conversation with Siyyid Husayn. By then the Báb had said to the guard:
“I have finished My conversation with Siyyid Husayn. Now you may proceed to fulfil your intention.”28_ACT13

      The Báb’s last words

      Nabíl records what happened next:

On the same wall and in the same manner, the Báb and His companion were again suspended, while the regiment formed in line to open fire upon them. … “Had you believed in Me, O wayward generation,” were the last words of the Báb to the gazing multitude as the regiment was preparing to fire the final volley, “every one of you would have followed the example of this youth, who stood in rank above most of you, and willingly would have sacrificed himself in My path. The day will come when you will have recognised Me; that day I shall have ceased to be with you.” 29_ACT13
