Section Two: The Execution is Prepared

The Walk to the Barracks
The authorities wanted to reduce any public sympathy for the Báb, knowing the public may not be too happy to see a Siyyid [a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad] executed. So, they removed the Báb’s turban and sash, the twin emblems of His noble lineage, and the Báb and His attendant-amanuensis [Siyyid Husayn-i-Yazdí] were then marched on foot through the city to the army barracks. A great commotion began in Tabríz that day, as its populace prepared for what was to come.
