Every day, Siyyid Hasan accompanied by one of the guards, would come down to the village, purchase some daily necessities and then go back up to the castle. The guards were ordered that no one else from the outside besides the two brothers were allowed to meet the Báb. But this only held up for the first couple of weeks.
“Tomorrow, I will instruct the warden to conduct him to this place.”
A trickle of believers had started coming to the village below the castle in the hope of being able to see the Báb. Among the first ones to arrive was Shaykh Hasan of Zunúz. He was also one of the amanuenses of the Báb. He tried to go up to the castle to meet the Báb, but of course, the guards would not allow it. So, he stayed in the village below and spent the nights in a masjid [mosque] by the gate of the village.
Siyyid Hasan was very surprised, as he wondered how the Báb was going to make the domineering and self-willed warden ‘Alí-Khán change his strict orders. Still, he did as he was told and passed on the message that day to Shaykh Hasan of Zunúz.
Early the next day, before sunrise and while the gate of the castle was still closed, the two companions of the Báb were surprised by a knocking on the outer door. They heard the voice of the warden ‘Alí-Khán arguing with the guards outside. After a short while, one of the guards came and asked if the Báb would grant permission for ‘Alí-Khán to come and see Him. ‘Alí-Khán arrived, but this was a changed person. He walked in with humility and extreme courtesy, and with trembling limbs, approached the Báb. The Báb rose from His seat and welcomed him. ‘Alí-Khán flung himself at the Báb’s feet saying:
Deliver me from my perplexity, I adjure you by the Prophet of God, your illustrious ancestor … … I was riding through the wilderness and was approaching the gate of the town, when, it being the hour of dawn, my eyes suddenly beheld You standing by the side of the river engaged in offering Your prayer. With outstretched arms and upraised eyes, You were invoking the name of God. I stood still and watched You. I was waiting for You to
