Section Three: Hasten to the Land of Khá

      Mashhad

Located in the far eastern part of the province of Khurásán, Mashhad is the most important town of that province, housing the Shrine of Imám Ridá, the eighth of the twelve Holy Imáms of the Shí’a. Imám Ridá
is the only one of the twelve Shí’a Imáms buried in Írán. The other Imáms have their resting places either in Medina or around Baghdád region. Mashhad therefore was and is a site of special pilgrimage for the Shí’a faithful, a significant centre of Shí’a learning and a commercial centre as well.
