When Mullá Husayn and his two companions arrived at the gate of the city of Shíráz, he instructed his brother to quietly, in the middle of the night, go to the house of the middle uncle of the Báb [Hájí Mírzá Siyyid ‘Alí] and request him to inform the Báb of their arrival. The next day, Mullá Husayn received the welcome news that the uncle would himself meet Mullá Husayn just outside the gate of the city after sunset. That evening, Mullá Husayn met up with the Báb’s uncle and went to the uncle’s residence. During that night, the Báb came to the residence where Mullá Husayn was able to converse and remain in His presence until the break of day.
The First Group to come to Shíráz: The three who make it
Soon after Mullá Husayn’s arrival, the Báb gave permission to the Bábís who had gathered in Isfáhán, to leave gradually for Shíráz, and there to wait until it should be feasible for Him to meet them. He cautioned them to exercise the utmost vigilance and not draw attention to themselves. He instructed them to enter the gate of the city only a few at a time and to disperse immediately upon their arrival into such quarters as were reserved for travelers. He also instructed them to accept whatever employment they could find.
Much to everyone’s surprise, these simple words had a startling effect on Mullá ‘Abdu’l-Karím, who burst into tears and threw himself at the feet of the Báb.
