this to NabĂl (at this stage HĂĄjĂ âAbduâl-MajĂd had not recognized the station of the BĂĄb, while it seems âAbduâl-VahhĂĄb had):
From BaghdĂĄd I moved to KĂĄzimayn, where âAbduâl-VahhĂĄb established his business. A strange mystery brooded over his youthful face. He seemed to be concealing from me a secret which appeared to have transformed his life. And when, in the year 1267 A.H. [1851 C.E.], BahĂĄâuâllĂĄh journeyed to âIrĂĄq and visited KĂĄzimayn, âAbduâl-VahhĂĄb fell immediately under the spell of His charm and pledged his undying devotion to Him.32PORT
Balyuzi in his book, BahĂĄâuâllĂĄh â King of Glory [Chapter 18, p96], relates this about âAbduâl-VahhĂĄb in KĂĄzimayn:
Next, we meet this God-intoxicated youth in KĂĄzimayn,33PORT the holy city adjacent to BaghdĂĄd, where he had set himself up in a shop. The year is 1851. BahĂĄâuâllĂĄh is temporarily in IrĂĄq, having gone there on the advice of MĂrzĂĄ TaqĂ KhĂĄn, the AmĂr KabĂr. Kazimayn with its two sacred shrines was frequently visited by BahĂĄâuâllĂĄh. It was inevitable that the ShĂrĂĄzĂ youth should encounter BahĂĄâuâllĂĄh and, having encountered Him, become fervently attached to Him. Now he knew no peace save in the presence of BahĂĄâuâllĂĄh, Who was still known only as JinĂĄb-i-BahĂĄ by the BĂĄbĂs, and as MĂrzĂĄ Husayn-âAlĂy-i-NĂșrĂ by the world at large. MĂrzĂĄ âAbduâl-VahhĂĄbâs dearest wish was to travel back to ĂrĂĄn in the company of BahĂĄâuâllĂĄh. But BahĂĄâuâllĂĄh persuaded him to remain where he was, with his father, and gave him a sum of money to enlarge and extend his trade.
â3. Abduâl-VahhĂĄb follows BahĂĄâuâllĂĄh to TihrĂĄn and is arrested
But âAbduâl-VahhĂĄbâs heart could not be stilled, and he could not bear the separation from BahĂĄâuâllĂĄh, who had returned to TihrĂĄn. After a short while, he also set out for TihrĂĄn. Balyuzi in BahĂĄâuâllĂĄh â King of Glory [Chapter 18, p96-97], relates this:
He [âAbduâl-VahhĂĄb] reached the capital at the time when the misguided attempt had been made on the life of the ShĂĄh and TihrĂĄn was in turmoil. âAbduâl-BahĂĄ relating in a Tablet the story of that glorious youth, speaks of
