Hujjat’s second detention in the Capital [April 1847 to end 1848/early 1849]

Hujjat’s second detention in Tihrán was quite extended. He got there April of 1847 and was detained there for over a year and half, effectively under house arrest. 21_ACT14

During this time significant changes occurred in the land. Muhammad Sháh died [September 1848] and Násiri’d-Dín became the new Sháh; and the old Grand Vazír was deposed and replaced by Mírzá Taqí Khán, the Amír-Kabír [DB 17-18, Section 3]. Also, during this time, the Báb was first incarcerated in Máh-Kú and then Chihríq; and the events of Fort Shaykh Tabarsí began [DB 19, Section 4]. Hujjat longed to go and join Fort Tabarsí, but his detainment prevented it. Regarding this Nabíl records:

His [Hujjat’s] sole consolation in those days was his close association with Bahá’u’lláh, from whom he received the sustaining power that enabled him, in the time to come, to distinguish himself by deeds no less remarkable than those which that company [at Fort Tabarsí] had manifested in the darkest hours of their memorable struggle.22_ACT14
The new Grand Vazír, the Amír-Kabír, took a much harder stance than his predecessor with the Báb and all the Bábís. One of the orders he gave was to tighten the security around Hujjat and begin plans to have him secretly killed. On learning about this, Hujjat arranged to escape from his detention in the capital. He did so disguised as a soldier and headed back to Zanján. Hujjat’s escape from Tihrán and his return to Zanján was around the end of 1848 or early 1849.23_ACT14
