      Prologue

Change is hard, very hard. History records that every time a new Messenger from God appears in a land, most of the people in that land oppose Him and in fact actively persecute and try to destroy Him.

The irony is twofold: first, these same people claim to be actively waiting for that Messenger of God and to be most diligently following the teachings of God. Second, those who lead this opposition are primarily the clergy who are meant to guide the people to the Truth. The clergy’s desire to remain in power blinds their spiritual sight, while the masses choose to remain in the comfort zone of their blind beliefs and just follow the clergy.

In the chapters that follow, we will see this age-old pattern of resistance to change repeat itself at the appearance of the Báb. At the same time, we will see that not all souls are the same. As always, there are some souls who arise and break the inner chains that bind the minds and hearts; chains that others cannot break. These individuals are able to free their souls. Like phoenixes, they rise from the ashes of their former selves. These we call the Dawn-Breakers.
